Erlangen is well connected to the public transport network and can easily be reached by train or bus. If you are traveling by car, it is advisable to carpool with colleagues. If flights are unavoidable, the airport of the neighboring city of Nuremberg (about 25 km away) offers many international connections. The international airports of Frankfurt and Munich are about 200 km away and can be easily reached by bus and train.

Erlangen is a rather small city (approx. 110,000 inhabitants) with short distances that can often be covered on foot. Within the city there is a network of public bus lines that connect all interesting places.

Ways to get to Erlangen

By train
Erlangen is on the railroad line Nuremberg - Bamberg (both cities can be reached by suburban train in about 20 minutes) and is a stop for connections with ICE, IC, RE and RB. In long-distance traffic, Erlangen is located on the routes Hamburg - Munich, Rostock - Vienna, Karlsruhe - Leipzig, among others.
On the direct connection the travel time to Munich is only 1.5 hours and to Berlin 3 hours.

By bus
From many cities in Germany, you can easily travel to Erlangen by bus. For example, the central bus stop of Flixbus is located at bus platform 6 below the main train station in Erlangen.

Albrecht Dürer Airport Nuremberg is just 20 km away.

Bus line 30 and bus line 33 connect Erlangen with Albrecht Dürer Airport Nuremberg. The U2 subway line takes you from the airport directly to Nuremberg Central Station. The journey time from the airport to the station is twelve minutes. From there, you can reach Erlangen in about 20 minutes by suburban train (“S-Bahn”).
